The Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) ensures the protection of trademarks when assigning the new gTLDs(nTLDs). If a trade mark is registered in the TMCH, trade mark owners have the opportunity to participate in the “Sunrise Phase”. In this phase, trade mark owners are given priority when registering domains. This is followed by the general domain allocation phase, during which the “Trademark Claims Service” is initially provided for a period of 90 days. This is a TMCH notification service that warns trademark owners and domain holders of possible infringements in the event of domain registrations.
